Unspoiled coastlines. Untamed wilderness. Our next adventure begins!

maui helicopter tour (12)

Serene seascapes. Unspoiled coastlines. Untamed wilderness.

By the time you read this blog post we will already be in the air traveling to the Hawaiian island of Molokai, a lesser known island that stays true to its Hawaiian roots and traditions.

We’re excited that our next adventure will take us to a destination that requires sunblock and flip flops; a tropical island that can proudly claim it doesn’t have a building taller than a coconut tree. No traffic lights, no bright neon, no chain stores.

We have been invited to visit Molokai by the good people at the Maui Visitors & Convention Bureau, the same folks who introduced us to Maui a few months ago. We absolutely loved our time in Maui and had an opportunity to see Molokai while on a helicopter tour over the Hawaiian islands.

If the aerial views are any indication, we are in for a real treat!

We are most excited about visiting an island that many people overlook or know very little about. In fact, when we have mentioned to friends that we will be visiting Molokai many of them look at us confused, having never heard of the Hawaiian island before.

We’re looking forward to experiencing a different side of Hawaii, one that is far removed from the glitz and glamour of Maui or Oahu.

We’ve been warned that since we will be visiting over the Easter long weekend we might be limited on options for activities, restaurants and shopping. And that’s just fine with us! We want to connect with the people and the land. We want to soak up our environment and enjoy the time we have together.

Our itinerary is fairly open but we a few fun adventures planned. We will be hiking the lush Halawa Valley, swimming under waterfalls, sea kayaking, exploring the island’s remote beaches, and of course, we will be doing the popular mule ride through Kalaupapa National Historical Park.

We will be leaving Baby B behind for this trip, which is a BIG DEAL. It’s actually the first time we’ve ever left him! Nicole’s already having mini heart-attacks and cold sweats, but we know he’s in great hands with his Oma and Opa. He likely won’t even know that we’re gone!

We know this trip is going to be very different from our previous trip to Maui, and we are stoked about that. Without Baby B in tow, we will have time to slow down and explore the culture and history of Molokai. And who knows, we might even sleep in!

We’ve been told that once you visit Molokai, it leaves a place in your heart. From the pictures we’ve seen and stories we’ve already heard, we can see why.
